Hike, play, and explore at Glen Canyon Park & Recreation Center!

The Glen Canyon Park & Recreation Center offers 70 acres of open space within the Glen Park Canyon, and offers tons of trails and natural solace tucked away from the urban landscape of SF. Children will enjoy exploring the trails -especially in springtime when the wildflowers are in full bloom- venturing through massive Eucalyptus and Gum trees, up to rocky chert outcroppings, searching for the “fairy house” and scanning the banks of Islais Creek (one of the few remaining free-flowing creeks in San Francisco) for bird and wildlife spotting.

This park is also dog friendly and has a fantastic all-ages playground & Recreation Center. There’s a nice picnic area, with 2 ball diamonds (must be reserved) and 2 full tennis courts available on a first-come-first-served basis. The playground has swings, a giant ropes climbing structure, fun slides, and a sand pit.

The Rec Center features nice bathrooms with changing tables and is home to one of the first public rock climbing walls and a beautiful indoor basketball court. Visit their website or front desk for more information.

Emily Coleman
Emily Coleman is a Jersey girl born and raised who caught the outdoor bug upon moving to Vermont to pursue a degree in Adventure Education and Environmental Studies from Green Mountain College. She spent most of her years before college deeply entrenched in the world of competitive cheerleading before discovering a passion for outdoor sports including mountain biking, white water kayaking, bikepacking, backpacking, slacklining, rock climbing, and skiing. Having been surrounded by children her entire life in her mother's daycare, she always had a strong affinity for kids. She moved to the mountains of Jackson Hole after graduating to coach for the local Kayak Club during the summers and nanny in the winters. Becoming a part of the Happy Active Family team felt like the perfect collision of her passion for building strong community bonds and encouraging an outdoor lifestyle.
