Tennessee's "Mayberry", A Fun Daytrip from Nashville!

If you love a quaint, country town, Tennessee's "Mayberry", aka Granville, is about an hour from Nashville and is well worth a visit during the holiday season.  We stumbled upon it the weekend before Thanksgiving and it was already decorated for the season with wooden carve-outs of Disney and Peanut characters, Christmas trees, and of course Mayberry themed decor.  Head to the T. B. Sutton Store first, which is a classic old town general store.  Inside you can find gifts, treats, and in the back there is a place to order really delicious and reasonably priced food (kid-friendly options, too).  On Saturday nights, there is a bluegrass show, which is supposed to be wonderful.

During the holiday season, you can buy tickets ($5 for adults, free for kids) to tour all of the museums and attractions in this tiny town.  The staff at Sutton's is very kind and will give you a map and direct you - whether you want to join the scheduled tours or do-it-yourself.

My kids loved going to the museum to see all the Christmas trees and the old schoolroom in the museum's upstairs.  We then went to see antique cars and the preserved log cabin across the road.  After we wandered through town, popping in the sites + town gazebo with very small play structure, we wandered towards the river where we passed a few more antique cars (including a police car) which the girls loved hopping in.  We stayed down by the river to skip stones and eat a snack at the picnic tables, and then loaded up for the ride back to Nashville.  We spent a couple of hours wandering around enjoying the festive season.
