The Great Lakes Aquarium was designed to educate visitors about the biological, recreational, and economic resources of the Great Lakes, specifically Lake Superior.

This aquarium is the only one in the United States to focus solely on freshwater. It is broken down into different exhibits. From the Amazing Amazon to Critter Corner to Raptor Ridge, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

A few of the exhibits had hands-on features that kept my kids engaged. Being able to touch a jellyfish and/or a sturgeon fish was the highlight of the trip for my kids. I have never seen a bald eagle up close and seeing one was quite impressive. The newest exhibit, "H20: Watersheds at Work" was a huge hit with all the kids in the museum. It's a giant water table in the shape of the Great Lakes, showing locks and dams, and how the water and boats are able to move from lake to lake. It's very unique and interactive. My kids also liked the slide built into the tree. It was in a good spot in the middle of the aquarium tour, because my kids' attention span for the aquarium was waning. It lets kids can burn off some energy and come back to be more engaged.

Be sure to take a peak at the lake and lift bridge when you are visiting. This is such a great place to check out when you are visiting Duluth, no matter what time of year. After checking out the exhibits, walk over to Bayfront Park and let the kids burn off some energy on the playground.
