Magnificent Waterfall 40 minutes from Monteagle/Sewanee Area

Greeter Falls is a short hike to a beautiful waterfall. Park in the Greeter Falls parking lot and follow the signs across the road to the trail. From the trailhead to the waterfall is about .5 miles. There are some interesting rock formations along the way but the real highlight is the waterfall with a gorgeous blue pool at the base. The hike is not that difficult, but you'll find yourself going through fairly steep sections with narrow paths and boulders and a spiral metal staircase and then several wooden stairs just before the falls. This is where kids will need the most assistance.  After you explore the base of the falls, you can easily veer towards the upper falls, which are beautiful with smaller rapids and nice pools (be careful as it is slippery).

To make this a longer loop, instead of hiking straight to Greeter Falls, make a left at the split towards Broadtree Falls. This trail takes you to another waterfall, Broadtree Falls. While this waterfall is not as large, you can access the base of the falls from the trail. The path between Broadtree Falls and Greeter Falls is especially fun for kids as it's very rocky and kids will enjoy climbing on the large boulders.

While the waterfalls run in abundance during the Fall, Winter, and Spring, they can dry up in the summer months. In these warmer months, be sure to visit the Blue Hole swimming hole. Follow the signs for Blue Hole, which slips away from the Greeter Falls trail near the trailhead.

There are no restrooms at the trailhead or the parking lot.

If you haven't had enough waterfalls, drive 30 minutes, and see the equally beautiful Foster Falls.
