For some quality bonding time with your little ones, Hammer and Stain DIY crafts place is ideal.

You can bring your child to the public workshop and either work on a project together or individually, depending on his or her age. There are also kids events, as well as options to host private parties for children 8 and over, or adults. The workshops can last 2-3 hours, so your child should be able to maintain focus for a period of time, but you are welcome to bring your own snacks and food - nourishment certainly helps concentration! They also provide wine and beer for the adults, so you can sip on an adult beverage while you play. It is a lot of fun, and the project fostered a high level of focus and creativity in our team member's 6 year old. Either way, you definitely don't have to be naturally creative to create something wonderful, the team will support you along the way.

They host special Open House events throughout the year as well, and you can also take advantage of "Hammer @ Home" and purchase projects to complete with your family in the comfort of your own home.

One of our favorite local chains, Matchbox, has a location less than five minutes away if you are craving sandwiches or pizza after you've had your fun at Hammer & Stain. Rockville Memorial Library is also right across the street! The library not only has a great childrens section, but also lots of outdoor play space for your little ones if they need to run around.

Randi (Betts) Banks grew up in New York and graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. She moved to Washington, D.C. more than thirteen years ago with her husband, Eaghmon, and they love to explore the area and seek out adventure, now with their two young children along for the ride. Growing up right near the beach, they are happiest when on or near the water, so exploring the rivers, lakes, and streams in the greater DC area is a favorite pastime for their family. In addition to serving as one of the Washington, DC area ambassadors, Randi is also the Editor in Chief and Co-founder of happyly.
