This Historic Park in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia is both Memorable and Fun for All Ages.

Managed by the National Park Service, this nearly 4,000-acre area spreads from Harpers Ferry, West Virginia into both Maryland and Virginia. It is known as a stop on the Underground Railroad, and the site of many important historical events. Washington himself led the construction of the Harpers Ferry Armory, which among many things, supplied the weapons for the Lewis and Clark Expedition and played a role in the historic abolitionist raid of the Federal Armory led by John Brown, which is what the park was initially established to memorialize.

The ruins of one of the Arsenal Buildings are pictured above. The town was also a Civil War boundary between Union and Confederate forces, and these periods and events remain carefully marked by the many 19th Century buildings that still stand. The park often hosts historical events and reenactments of life in Harpers Ferry in the past. The entire experience is simultaneously entertaining and educational.

While you're in the park, make sure to stop at The Point and wander along the Shenandoah River where it sets out toward the Blue Ridge Mountains. Jefferson Rock is another significant historical landmark in the small town that shouldn't be missed. Harper’s Ferry Brewery isn't too far by car if you're looking for some food after your journey or settle into one of the restaurants located in town and then follow your meail with a trip to Creamy Creations, which is right before you get to the train station and has delicious ice cream.
