Huntsman Lake Park and Playground in Springfield, Virginia is a great place to spend the day!

We really enjoyed the huge playground here as well as took advantage of the picnic area and walked the trail! The playground has two large sections with a variety of slides, some fun flowers that double as instruments and a bee to climb. There are two baby swings but no regular swings here. Part of the playground is mulch and the other side is a rubberized surface. Benches are all over for resting tired legs! The playground does get a lot of sun so hats, sunscreen and water would be a plus!

Next to the playground is a basketball court and several picnic tables tucked into the trees.

A paved path goes from the parking area at the end of Dorothy Lane and extends through the woods and partially around Huntsman Lake. The trail is not a loop trail and is hilly in places but does get plenty of shade until you reach the dam. The trail crosses several bridges over a creek with easy access to the water for little explorers. The lake edge is harder to reach due to thick vegetation until you cross the dam but there are some spots for fishing and we saw several people launching kayaks into the water on our walk! Spotting the boats out on the water made for extra fun!

There are no restrooms at the park but the Huntsman Square Shopping Center is very close. The shopping center has a Starbucks, Subway, and Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream store if you are in need of coffee, lunch, or a treat!
