The James M. Duncan Branch is a cute little library that is adjacent to a great playground in Del Ray.

While small, this library boasts a great selection of children's books. The children's programming is top-notch, which is likely why it is often very popular, so be sure to arrive early for storytime as space can be limited. During other times of day, however, there is usually plenty of space to spread out with your little ones for some reading or puzzle time.

The community overall welcomes children at this local spot, so while it is, of course, important to be respectful, the adults that use the space don't arrive expecting complete silence as they may in a more formal library setting.

The Mount Vernon Recreation Center (not to be confused with the Mount Vernon REC Center by Belle View Elementary School) is home to an impressive playground with an area for both toddlers and bigger kids. There are picnic tables and plenty of delicious spots to grab lunch within walking distance. The neighborhood is bustling and there are many options including cafes, Mexican food, pizza and barbeque!

Randi (Betts) Banks grew up in New York and graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. She moved to Washington, D.C. more than thirteen years ago with her husband, Eaghmon, and they love to explore the area and seek out adventure, now with their two young children along for the ride. Growing up right near the beach, they are happiest when on or near the water, so exploring the rivers, lakes, and streams in the greater DC area is a favorite pastime for their family. In addition to serving as one of the Washington, DC area ambassadors, Randi is also the Editor in Chief and Co-founder of happyly.
