Share the Trail on the 3.5 Mile Hike in Long Hunter State Park!

Although it was created for mountain biking, this path is also open to hikers - although bikers have first right-of-way – so beware!  This means you also have to go one way for bike traffic.  We were there on a cloudy, rainy day in late February, and we saw no other hikers or bikers!

The trail goes through beautiful cedar glades and has bright, lime green moss in the winter months – it’s breathtaking in terms of vegetation!  We’ve also heard in spring that it has gorgeous spring wildflowers so we will be back to see them. The path approaches Bald Knob, the highest overlook on Percy Priest Lake.  There are rare views of the lake – but note if you are looking for vistas, this is not your hike as the trees block them for the most part.  But we enjoyed it because it was relatively flat, had gorgeous plants, and was a loop!  We did see a section where you could walk down to the shores of the lake, but be warned: there was a lot of litter in the woods so we turned back.  There is an outer loop and a shorter, inner loop; if you hike only the outer loop to Bald Knob, the total distance is just over 3.5 miles.
