Well-worth the effort, but have a plan for little legs.

Get outside with your family and take this beautiful 3.5-mile local hike that offers gorgeous views of the southern side of Jackson and Snow King. The trail itself can be accessed by parking along Crab Tree Lane and walking over the bridge to Russ Garaman Park. Follow the bike path to the left until you see the trailhead for Josie’s Ridge. The hike is fairly steep and can be challenging for little ones but rewarding for the whole family, with its excellent views.

It should take anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours to complete. I’ve even seen some parents carry two children up at the same time with a baby Bjorn and backpack. The peak will give you amazing 360 views of Jackson. Note: The trail is closed during the coldest months.

*Steep and challenging for young kiddos but possible. Our 3 year old made it to the top alternating between the backpack and hiking.  Only recommended for younger kids if you have a backpack to carry them in.

Emily Coleman
Emily Coleman is a Jersey girl born and raised who caught the outdoor bug upon moving to Vermont to pursue a degree in Adventure Education and Environmental Studies from Green Mountain College. She spent most of her years before college deeply entrenched in the world of competitive cheerleading before discovering a passion for outdoor sports including mountain biking, white water kayaking, bikepacking, backpacking, slacklining, rock climbing, and skiing. Having been surrounded by children her entire life in her mother's daycare, she always had a strong affinity for kids. She moved to the mountains of Jackson Hole after graduating to coach for the local Kayak Club during the summers and nanny in the winters. Becoming a part of the Happy Active Family team felt like the perfect collision of her passion for building strong community bonds and encouraging an outdoor lifestyle.
