The Kure Beach Fishing Pier is a pretty fun {but touristy} spot to either fish or observe fishermen (and women). There is a no alcohol policy which makes it officially family-friendly. You can buy bait/tackle/gear at the Bait Shop/Store as well as ice cream and touristy treats. The shop operates from April 1 - Thanksgiving Sunday. No fishing license is required to fish off of the pier. But there is a small fee if you do want to fish. Pier access is free year-round to those not fishing, but interested in an amazing view of the coast.
