If you're in the Chevy Chase neighborhood or just finished a hike at Rock Creek Park, consider checking out Lafayette Recreation Center Playground.
This modern playground has a variety of options for play including swings, bucket swings, tire swings, slides, climbing features, a climbing wall, monkey bars and rings, spring based riders, a sand pit, and musical play equipment. For the younger kids there is a separate fenced in toddler zone, which helps to put parents and caregivers minds at ease. It also helps to keep the little ones out from under foot of the bigger kids!
For hot days there is even a little splash pad and water table. There is a misting arch and gentle sprays to run around and cool off in. This park is definitely one to visit because it hosts lots of different and unique play structures in addition to the more traditional “playground” stuff. The big kid area has a spider-web for climbing, a ropes course with bridege, and a giant gray tunnel slide! Often times the bigger kids aren’t as challenged at the playground, but this park strives to provide tons of climbing and engaging activities for all ages.
This playground is shared with the elementary school but is open all day everyday to the public!
In addition to the playgrounds there are several tennis courts, a baseball field, and basketball court. Restrooms and water fountains are on site, along with a few picnic tables and benches. The paved walking path is great for strollers and the beautiful trees along the perimeter offer a little bit of shade.
