Lake Anza is a favorite spot to swim and play in Berkeley.

This man-made, fresh water swimming hole, located in Tilden Regional Park, is a relaxing and fun summer trip. The sandy beach is perfect for sun bathing and building sand castles. It is awesome for families because of the calm waters, lifeguard on duty during swimming season, and all the amenities provided. There are changing rooms, a snack bar, toilets and large parking area. Note that the swim area is closed (on lifeguard days) from 9am-11am for maintenance and training. Swimming is still allowed (May through September) when lifeguards are not on duty, but it is at your own risk and only allowed in the roped-off area.

If you are there during non-swimming times or simply want to mix things up a bit, the lake has a few great trails you can follow. The trail going around the edge of the lake is beautiful but can be a bit uneven. Make sure to wear proper shoes (that you don’t mind getting muddy) and be ready to climb over a few rocks.

The lake and surrounding area is home to trout, otter, bullfrogs, nesting birds, dragonflies and other creatures! It’s the perfect place to come relax, fish, hike, and have a picnic — making a full days adventure out of it.

Lake Anza is one of the many awesome activities Tilden Regional Park has to offer. They also have a Nature Area with wonderful FREE activities for kids and families, a Botanical Garden, Merry Go Round, and Train.

Emily Coleman
Emily Coleman is a Jersey girl born and raised who caught the outdoor bug upon moving to Vermont to pursue a degree in Adventure Education and Environmental Studies from Green Mountain College. She spent most of her years before college deeply entrenched in the world of competitive cheerleading before discovering a passion for outdoor sports including mountain biking, white water kayaking, bikepacking, backpacking, slacklining, rock climbing, and skiing. Having been surrounded by children her entire life in her mother's daycare, she always had a strong affinity for kids. She moved to the mountains of Jackson Hole after graduating to coach for the local Kayak Club during the summers and nanny in the winters. Becoming a part of the Happy Active Family team felt like the perfect collision of her passion for building strong community bonds and encouraging an outdoor lifestyle.
