Lands End Lookout is a fun hiking spot, rich in history and with great views.

The trails here wind their way around rocky cliffs and cypress trees and then open up to views of the ocean and the Golden Gate Bridge. The Lands End Lookout visitor center includes a park-themed bookstore and cafe and serves as the starting point for exploring the trails. You can grab a snack to eat along the trail and feel good about your choice, because the cafe stocks locally sourced organic food provided by the Cliff House. Also, all the proceeds from the cafe and bookstore support stewardship and education programs at Lands End.

The full loop is about 3 1/2 miles long and is unpaved, except for the beginning. There are a few strenuous spots and a couple of steep stairways, making this route marked as moderate according to AllTrails. Of course, you can always choose to do a shorter out and back route, just grab a map and plan out your adventure! Some of the shorter trails include: The Sutro Trail, El Camino Del Mar Trail, and The Legion of Honor Trail.

The views are well worth the hike and it is an enjoyable place to explore the nature and beauty of the San Fransisco coast. For the mountain bikers, there are a few bike trails and many people like to bring their dogs to hike with them. Keep a lookout for shipwrecks during low tide and for glimpses of ocean life! The views of the Sutro Bath Ruins are pretty great as well. Bring a jacket or windbreaker, water and snacks.

Emily Coleman
Emily Coleman is a Jersey girl born and raised who caught the outdoor bug upon moving to Vermont to pursue a degree in Adventure Education and Environmental Studies from Green Mountain College. She spent most of her years before college deeply entrenched in the world of competitive cheerleading before discovering a passion for outdoor sports including mountain biking, white water kayaking, bikepacking, backpacking, slacklining, rock climbing, and skiing. Having been surrounded by children her entire life in her mother's daycare, she always had a strong affinity for kids. She moved to the mountains of Jackson Hole after graduating to coach for the local Kayak Club during the summers and nanny in the winters. Becoming a part of the Happy Active Family team felt like the perfect collision of her passion for building strong community bonds and encouraging an outdoor lifestyle.
