Spend time on the playground and cool off at the splash pad at Legion Field Park and Playground!

Conveniently located near historic downtown Pensacola, Legion Field is a newly renovated community park that has been around for ages. According to local historians, the park originally opened in 1911 as a baseball stadium with a grandstand that could hold over one thousand spectators. The City of Pensacola purchased the park in 1919 and it served as home to several Pensacola baseball teams over the years.

The park that we know today has changed very much over time and is now home to local youth sports leagues. Legion Field was recently redesigned to include all new playground equipment as well as a few other added amenities. The park has one very large woodland inspired play structure with multiple slides and climbers of different heights as well as a separate obstacle-course style structure with rope bridges and climbing walls. The park also has a brand-new splash pad and a fitness court.

Legion Field has numerous sports fields for baseball, football, as well as soccer. There are plenty of open grassy areas perfect for passive recreation or imaginative play so consider bringing along bubbles, balls, or other outdoor toys to play with. The park is fully fenced and there are paved sidewalks around and throughout the park which could be nice for a stroller walk or short scooter ride. There are a few picnic tables located at the park under a gazebo, perfect for enjoying a picnic or snack after a fun session of play. There are also benches scattered throughout for seating.

There are onsite restroom facilities however they were not open when we were there on a Saturday evening. It should also be noted that there is very little shade in the area. The Florida sun can be strong for sensitive skin so sunscreen is always recommended.

The City of Pensacola supports the area's Leave No Trace initiative and encourages everyone to help keep local parks clean. Please remember to collect any garbage and leave only your footprints behind.
