Enjoy a Lovely Park and Playground with Stunning, Expansive River Views!
We stumbled upon Lock Two Park (I'd never heard of it but was in the area and looking for a playground) and am so glad we did: it has a small, but a unique boat-themed playground, set upon a high bluff overlooking the Cumberland River. There is a large green, sloping hill down to the river (with a gate protecting you from the waters). There are plenty of picnic tables and space to run around so bring a picnic and a ball to kick or throw around.
Apparently, this area was part of the lock system that had been planned for Nashville over a hundred years ago to make the Cumberland River more navigable. You'll find the lock keeper’s house, several outbuildings, a lock wall, and a river gauge marking water height on the concrete steps.
There is also a boat ramp providing access to the river.
The shade is limited so be prepared with sunscreen and hats.
