If you're looking for a quaint neighborhood playground in the Sioux Falls area, Lyon Park is a great choice.
Located not far from the city center, but with a real residential, local park feel, our kiddos had a great time at this playground. I'll be honest, I'm not always a big fan of crowded playgrounds, so, for me, Lyon Park was already a step ahead of the game. After a whirlwind trip to South Dakota, we visited this playground at the very tail end of our time there. It was great for us all, as I was preparing to wind the kiddos down for the drive home.
Parking at this playground is basically limited street parking within a residential area. We had no problem with parking, though there were no other kiddos there while we played that day. The playground featured slides, climbing walls, bars, swings, and steps. It provides plenty of options to keep several kiddos perfectly happy for some time. Plus, I liked that no matter where the girls were, I could see them clearly no matter where I stood in the park. There aren't many trees at this park, which may not be important in the fall, but it sure matters for shade in the summer. We're very cautious about sun exposure, so it's something to note. There's also a large grassy area adjacent to the playground equipment, so there's plenty of room for a picnic or any type of outdoor ball game...soccer, playing catch, you name it.
This playground did not have restrooms available, but again, since we visited in late fall, it's possible they bring in Porto-Potties in the summer. Also of note is that it wasn't located on a super busy street. This is obviously a bonus if you have multiple young ones or a super-fast, active kiddo as we do.
Though the trees were scant, we did find some beautiful fall leaves at the park, which always allows for a moment to slow down and explore the beauty of nature. We loved this park for a more quiet option, and would definitely visit here again the next time we're in Sioux Falls. After your kiddos get all their wiggles out, head over to Phillips Avenue Diner, an adorable 50's style diner sure to please.
