About thirty minutes north of Portland is a place that feels nothing like the city. Where you are guaranteed to see a moose. And maybe even a black bear if he’s not sleeping. The Maine Wildlife Park is a great family spot for wildlife and animal lovers. The park is home to over 30 species of Maine wildlife that, either due to injury or an animal being orphaned, can not be returned back to their natural habitat. The animals safely live at the Maine Wildlife Park, overseen by game wardens from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries.
Animals include anything from foxes, raccoons, and porcupines to bobcats, black bears, coyotes, and of course, moose.
Special weekend programs include wildlife and education presentations, geared to the park’s youngest visitors.
The park provides seating areas for picnicking and has a small snack bar.
Children under age 3 are free; ages 4-12 are $5.50, ages 13-59 are $7.50, and seniors are $5.50. Cash and checks only. Due to the current COVID pandemic, the park is open by reservation only.
