Brentwood Park with Hilly, Family-Friendly Hiking and a Playground

I couldn't believe I'd never been here - Brentwood's largest park is only 25 minutes from Nashville and is a true gem.  It has soccer fields, a playground, a historic (and beautiful) home (the Ravenwood Mansion) - and tons of hiking trails all on approximately 400 gorgeous, hilly acres.  What really impressed me about the hiking trails is that they feel like you are much further out from civilization than you really are - they are well marked and have gorgeous trees, wildflowers, and killer views of Brentwood.

Here's what is great for families:

1. You can easily create your own route. You can start out ambitious but if you get tired or hungry, it is really easy to loop back to the parking lot.  We started up and to the left on the "Blue Trail" and then went clockwise and looped back down - making it about an hour-long hike.  The uphill at the start got our hearts going, but we were rewarded with views and shady vistas.

2. There are tons of benches and even picnic tables (bonus: about 0.4 into your hike on "Blue Trail" veer hard to your left for a 0.3 section that rewards with a nice cleared spot with picnic tables and space to run around.  We then went back to the "Blue Trail" and cut towards green and took the shortcut back to the car.)

3. There is a playground near the parking lot which is a nice reward for kiddos after the hike.

4. It's less crowded than some of the other parks in the area.

All in all, there are over six miles of trails that you can download and carry with you on your smartphone via the park website.

Tips: There is one restroom at the main trailhead near the parking lot.
