A history-packed adventure for the older kids!

Frankly, my darling, I do give a damn!  Located in the vibrant section of Midtown Atlanta, if these walls could talk!  On the National Registrar of Historic Places, Margaret Mitchell and her husband occupied the bottom floor where the majority of her Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, Gone With the Wind, was crafted.  One of the most famous works of art ever written, the quintessential story of life in the deep South during the Civil War comes to life here, in the vivid imagination of its author.

A large portion of the museum is dedicated to the manuscript becoming a movie that premiered just a few blocks down at Atlanta’s Fabulous Fox Theater in 1939.  The older set will enjoy learning about Margaret’s life during the ’30s in depression-punched Atlanta. Also, there’s a slew of purposeful symbolism carefully woven throughout this famous work to be uncovered that teens and tweens will also find interesting.

The subsequent major theatrical release was like nothing the world had ever seen and is carefully documented here. See earlier manuscripts, relics from the movie, fan letters, and historical correspondence. The guided tours begin every half hour and are not to be missed. Combine a history lesson with all around fun for the day.

A fantastic family-friendly lunch spot is just around the corner - an Atlanta institution, South City Kitchen.  Fried chicken, shrimp & grits, and fried green tomatoes for days! Southern comfort food to please every pallet in the family.
