The Maryland Science Center in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor may well be one of the oldest venues on our list of recommendations in Baltimore.  It all began with the Maryland Academy of Sciences in 1797, one of the oldest institutions dedicated to since in the country. What you’ll find today is place full of inspiration and wonder.  Interactive exhibits abound, the Davis Planetarium fuels imagination, the stunning atrium lobby welcomes visitors with life size dinosaur skeletons. There’s also an IMAX theater onsite for larger than life presentations related to science and the natural world.  Many of the exhibits are hands on, naturally, as there is no better way to learn than to do. There are also plenty of exhibits dedicated to the science behind the conservation of the local ecosystem, a theme you’ll find on display at many Maryland tourist attractions given the proximity to the Chesapeake Bay.

The Science Center sits in the Western corner of the Inner Harbor.  Metered street parking can be found on nearby streets but they also validate parking at several nearby lots, be sure to check their website for details.  There’s also a nearby Water Taxi stop if you’re planning on parking elsewhere like Canton or Fells Point and want to enjoy a full day of Baltimore’s offerings.  The layout is open so wheelchairs and strollers are welcome with the exception of theater areas in which strollers won’t be allowed. Stroller check areas are located nearby so you don’t have to miss those attractions.

Elements Café onsite provides made-to-order offerings are available for those guests looking for a sit-down opportunity while grab-and-go items are stocked for those guests on the move. They’re open daily except Monday.  If you prefer to bring your own feel free to do so, there’s a “brown bag zone” with comfortable seating to enjoy snack time.

The Science Center really is a monument to the joys that science and exploration can bring to minds both young and old.
