Second Street N.W. and Jefferson Street, Charlottesville, VA
A park with unique equipment in the heart of Charlottesville.
A fun, well-located spot for a playground structure in a historic location in downtown CVille!
Behind the McGuffey Art Center, near the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville sits McGuffey Park. In McGuffey Park much of the equipment is unique, a "weeping water well" water feature, spicas, spinner bowls, and both baby and regular swings which are set apart, an excellent feature when chasing toddlers who are at risk of running in front of moving swings. There are several slides on two different play structures including two side by side which the kiddos always love. There is a circular bike path as well as a sunken basketball court. There are benches for seating as well as a stone wall where people often sit while little ones play. There is some shade, though I'd bring sunblock anyway because the playground itself is out in the open sun.
In the summer my grandkids enjoy playing there, often before a free Friday concert on the mall. But no matter the season McGuffey Park is an enjoyable place to spend a few hours.
One of the three local Bodo's Bagels is a short distance from the park.
