outdoor-adventures, water-activities

Take the kids for a refreshing afternoon at Metal Ford.

If you are in the Hohenwald area, it’s a sunny and hot summer day, it’s a great opportunity to hit up the Metal Ford swimming hole to cool down.  It’s right off the trace, it’s family-friendly and quite peaceful.  The area has a few rocky “beaches” for any camp chairs, towels, and changes of clothes. The water is dark and can have a bit of a current after rains, so the smallest swimmers will need a life jacket. The depth ranges from ankle deep to waist deep and sometimes it’s hard to see where the depth changes. We saw a few kayakers and fishermen. Up the creek (to the right) are a few small rocky rapid features. We did not see any bathrooms.

Pack: water shoes that are grippy, towel, change of clothes, camp chair, snack, water bottle, life jacket for small kids, swimsuit, sunscreen, hat.
