Large, Extensive East Jackson Playground for Children of all ages.

Out of all of the family-friendly Jackson parks, Mike Yokel is my personal favorite to take the kids. Maybe I’m biased because it’s so close to my East Jackson home, but I stand by my opinion and I think you'll agree it's a lot of fun.

During the warmer months, its large grassy field and scattered trees offer plenty of room for privacy, shade, and sunshine for everyone. Its quiet, fenced-in, and secluded East Jackson location makes it feel tucked away and safe while still easily accessible and loads of fun. The well-maintained sand volleyball court is frequented on sunny days and there is almost always a slackline set up and a bocce or spike ball game being played on the horizon so it's not just a favorite for little ones, but the older set and adults alike will also love it.

The playground is beautiful and extensive  – with slides, swings, climbing nets, and more – and the covered picnic shelter is often the outdoor venue of choice for a variety of gatherings, including children's birthday parties. Kids and adults alike also enjoy the horseshoe pits. Well-maintained bathroom facilities and water fountains are available during the warmer months as well. You can park in the Mike Yokel Parking lot on East Kelly or in the cul de sac at the end of East Hansen. Dogs, however, are not allowed whether or not they are leashed.

Pro tip: During the cold season, only the playground is available.

Emily Coleman
Emily Coleman is a Jersey girl born and raised who caught the outdoor bug upon moving to Vermont to pursue a degree in Adventure Education and Environmental Studies from Green Mountain College. She spent most of her years before college deeply entrenched in the world of competitive cheerleading before discovering a passion for outdoor sports including mountain biking, white water kayaking, bikepacking, backpacking, slacklining, rock climbing, and skiing. Having been surrounded by children her entire life in her mother's daycare, she always had a strong affinity for kids. She moved to the mountains of Jackson Hole after graduating to coach for the local Kayak Club during the summers and nanny in the winters. Becoming a part of the Happy Active Family team felt like the perfect collision of her passion for building strong community bonds and encouraging an outdoor lifestyle.
