Obstacle course challenges for older children, teens, and adults in Fairfax, VA

Monticello Park is a small park in Fairfax with an obstacle course challenge and a dog park. The obstacle course challenge is designed for ages 13 and over but younger children may enjoy trying it out as well! The park is also home to a dog park and has a very large parking lot. A paved path takes you from the parking lot to the dog park and then to the obstacle course, the challenge course is also highly visible from the roadway since it sits high on a hill.

The obstacle course is fairly new and lacks tree cover so be prepared for the full sun! Equipment may get very hot in summer or midday. Since the park is on top of a hill, you also feel the wind here big time so you may want to avoid stopping by on a windy day. This park is popular on weekends and after school hours but if you can visit at an offtime you may have the whole course to yourself! There is no equipment designed with very small children in mind and some of the course may present a safety risk to toddlers and preschoolers. We felt safe letting our toddler explore since it was only our family on the equipment but I would have felt differently if the park had been busy.

There is a bench on the challenge course and plenty of trash cans but no restrooms. The dog park is fully fenced and far enough away from the playground if children are nervous about dogs, but you do pass the dog park to go to and from the parking lot.

We had a fun day testing out the equipment and can't wait to go back, it is a very unique playground experience!
