There is plenty to keep your family busy in the historic Adams Morgan neighborhood.

Adams Morgan is an area of DC most known for its nightlife these days, but if you happen to find yourself in this neighborhood looking for something to do with your family, we have you covered.

Start out at Tryst coffeehouse and restaurant on 18th Street in the heart of the neighborhood for a cup of coffee (or a smoothie for the little one) and a donut or croissant. This quirky coffeehouse and bar is part of a local hospitality group and serves up delicious specialty coffee from Counter Culture coffee.

After you fuel up, head to one of Adam Morgan’s play spaces to burn off some energy! If you have multiple children of different ages, stroll over to Kalorama Park to play for a little while.  You can sit on the grass and have a picnic before checking out the two separate, enclosed playgrounds, one for little kids and one for older children. The big kid area has some unique play features, including an excellent rubber slide and some fun climbing options. Bring a soccer ball and kick the ball around on the grass in the park for a little while to burn off more energy. This park has the advantage of having bathroom facilities in the recreation center.

If you only have a smaller child, you could head to Walter Pierce playground instead. This fenced-in playground has smaller-scale play equipment and is perfect for toddlers and small children.  After playing, toddlers might enjoy a walk over to the adjacent dog park to watch the city’s dogs enjoying their own play space.

Another play space is the newly-renovated playground at the Marie Reed Learning Center.  While the playground isn’t open to the public during school hours, kids will have a blast playing there on the weekends or after school hours.

Finally, one of our favorite things to do on a rainy weekend afternoon is to round up your quarters and head to Pop’s Seabar to grab a basket of boardwalk fries and some fried shrimp and play some pinball on one of their three pinball machines in the back!

If you are interested in the history of the area, search the Adams Morgan Heritage Trail for a taste of the past.
