North Coast Harbor in Cleveland has it all - a playground, boat rentals, and more!

North Coast Harbor is a veritable one-stop-shop if you’re visiting Cleveland. This downtown harbor offers many of the bucket list items that visitors to Cleveland must check off including The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, views of Lake Erie and the opportunity to take a picture in front of one of the famous Cleveland signs.

The first stop the kids will want to make is the brand-new playground, located between the Science Center and the Rock Hall. (Look for a set of tree-lined steps between the museums, go down the steps, look to the left and you can’t miss it!). The playground area offers just one set of equipment that is mostly for bigger kids. However, younger kids would still enjoy playing under the watchful eye of a grown-up! (If your kids are old enough to play independently, you’ll be able to enjoy one of the many adjacent benches that overlook the harbor waters). If you’ve brought a snack, there are also some picnic tables in this area.

After you’re done playing, walk from the playground towards the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to take a stroll along the harbor. (If you’ve got a little one, a baby carrier may be a better option than a stroller as the surface is a decorative brick and rather bumpy). You can view the iconic Rock Hall as well as the massive William G. Mather Steamship. Turn the bend, underneath the overhead walkway and you can head towards Voinovich Bicentennial Park.

The park features great views of Lake Erie, an iconic Cleveland script sign, and some green space for the kids to run around! This is a great spot for a photo op, a picnic, or just a safe area for little ones to burn some energy. The area also has a bocce court as well as a beach volleyball area that could be used as a sandbox if no one else is playing! If you want to get out on the water, boat rentals are also available!

The park does have public restrooms available as well as paid parking in a lot off of E 9th Street (right next to the Rock Hall). You can also nab some spots with meters in front of the Rock Hall. If you’re hungry (or thirsty), there are some higher-end restaurants available in the harbor but for a more casual vibe, we recommend heading to Masthead Brewing Co. They have excellent pizza (and beer!) and are just a five-minute drive from the park!

Our work in Baltimore is truly a family affair. Husband and wife, Matt and Katie, work together to head up our ambassador team in Charm City. Katie is a Maryland native and has lived in the state her whole life. She moved to Baltimore in 2007 after graduating from the University of Maryland, College Park with a bachelor's degree in early childhood education. She has been working in the field of early childhood education as a teacher and family coach for the past 12 years. Katie also holds a Masters of Education in Literacy from Loyola University. She is passionate about giving kids and families the knowledge and tools that they need to thrive. Matt grew up in the Highlandtown neighborhood of Baltimore. As a city native, Matt is a great resource on all that the city has to offer. After months of helping Katie explore the city for her role at a Happy Active Family, he decided to put his love of writing to use and officially come on board as an ambassador. Matt and Katie have two girls, ages 5 and 7. They spend their weekends camping, hiking, or exploring other hidden gems in their area. Tap into their insider knowledge by downloading the app today!
