Experience Savannah's historic district quickly and from the comfort of a trolley.

If you want to get an overview of Savannah to see a bit and learn a bit of history, the trolley is a great way to do it in a short amount of time, especially if you have little children whose legs might wear out walking.  The route has 15 stops and you can hop on and off as you wish throughout the day, to visit museums, historic squares, or restaurants along the route.  For 90 minutes (if you do all 15 stops on one ride), we felt we were able to get a sense of Savannah very well though we wished we’d hopped on and off more (the day we visited in mid-October was excessively hot and so we wanted to avoid walking at all costs).

The trolley is open-air but does have a roof, so there is some sun protection (especially if you aren’t sitting in the window seat).  Stop one is the Visitor’s Center, near Savannah College of Art and Design, but you are welcome to start at any stop you wish (Note: the trolley will ONLY let you on and off at designated stops and you cannot flag it down anywhere else).  We bought our tickets online and then showed a mobile ticket to board.  Our guide was great – balancing humor and knowledge of the city.

There are several trolley companies, and I’m not really sure how they are different.  We knew that the one we selected had several trolleys so that we wouldn’t have to wait at stops for more than 15-20 minutes, which was great.  Our trolley company offered a free mobile app to download which was helpful in understanding where we were on the route and other helpful tips – the link to the app was directed from my online ticket purchase.
