One of the greatest things about Austin is its unlimited access to nature.

Pease Park is no exception, running along Lamar Blvd for more than a dozen blocks, this park offers paved and dirt paths, art installations (such as environmental artist Patrick Dougherty's stickwork sculptures, near the 24th St. and Lamar entrance), green space – perfect for letting little legs run, tag, or play chase – and a splashpad. During wet months and after heavy rains, the path also follows along a creek that's often dotted with wildlife including numerous birds and big turtles. In the dryer months, however, the water mostly dries up. Parents looking to stretch their legs will appreciate the oppurtunity for both stroller runs and walks with the kiddos.

The park area known as Kingsbury Commons is lower down the trail, closer to 15th street and features volleyball courts, which are often in use during nice weather. The spot is currently undergoing a makeover to revamp the historic onsite Tudor Cottage, as well as new restrooms and service center, a new interactive water play feature and imaginative play area inspired by nature as well as a fitness area for all ages and more.
