Pepper Jacks is well known in Albany for a good lunch whether you are taking food to go or dining in.

Although they don’t have a kids' menu, they have many kid-friendly options such as grilled cheese, quesadillas, rice and beans, macaroni and cheese, etc.  I recommend that two and maybe even three young children can most likely split one item.  My kids love the cheese quesadilla but as a heads up it comes with a “Ranchero” dipping sauce which tastes like a Spanish ranch dressing. It is really good but often kids expect salsa and sour cream so ask for that instead if you know your kids would prefer traditional condiments.   I highly recommend getting dessert also! They have huge cookies and my personal favorite:  the BROOKIE.  It is half brownie, half cookie perfection.

Dining In?

If you are dining in, they have a fountain soda machine that my kids love because they have flavors to add-in.  Upon entering, the menu is written on a huge blackboard against the entire left side of the wall to look at.  Order at the front and then sit wherever you’d like.  They have high tops, booth tables, and patio seating when the weather is nice.  They will bring your food to you once it’s ready.  Enjoy! :)

SIDE NOTE:  Pepper Jack’s is often frequented by local and state police officers so its a bonus going there for my young boys who idolize them.

Taking your food to go?

For drinks, they have 20 oz bottles of water, soda, and iced tea to go.  Call your order in ahead of time and pick up to take it home or for a picnic.  The average pick up time is about 20 minutes.  Need a place to take your food?  Try some of my local faves that are close by. Westland Hills Park, Rosemont Playground, or Washington Park

Jenna Orapello
Jenna Orapello was born and raised about an hour north of New York City and moved to Albany to attend the University at Albany (SUNY) and never looked back! After meeting her now husband Rob, completing her bachelors and masters degree, and becoming a math teacher at Albany High School, she knew the capital region was her place to call home. Fast forward a few years and she is a mom to two young boys who always keep her on the move. Sure, she enjoys curling up on the couch with a good movie every now and then but Jenna is a firm believer that active kids are happy kids so she and her family spend their weekends and summers frequenting any and all activities they come across. Jenna feels blessed to live in such a vibrant community where the options to be active are endless and she enjoys sharing them with other families. Jenna also has the travel bug and believes that her children learn so much through each adventure so she is always planning their next family vacation (even if it is just a weekend getaway). Traveling with kids can certainly be intimidating but the more you do it, the easier it gets. Her kids (ages 3 and 1) have traveled via plane to the Grand Canyon, North Carolina, Mexico, and Costa Rica. Jenna is thrilled to be a Happy Active Family ambassador so that she can play a small role in helping other families stay active and happy!
