There is so much fun to be had at this park.
Located in Harrisburg, Pharr Mill Road Park has a large playground area, sand volleyball, covered picnic shelters, and a paved/ boardwalk walking trail. The playground has several play structures for both older and younger children with slides, climbing, monkey bars, a teeter-totter, and swings. The playground is not well-shaded, so during summer come early or later in the day to avoid the heat, and bring sunscreen. However, there are shaded and covered picnic areas to enjoy lunch or a snack. The sand volleyball is right next to the playground, so bring some sand toys to play with for some extra fun. There is also a large field area to run around in, so bring a ball or frisbee to throw around too.
The 2-mile walking path, which is part of the Carolina Thread Trail, is both paved and has a boardwalk section. The walking path loops and winds around the park and along Rocky River. Part of the path loops around the fishing pond. Strollers of any type will work on this walking path. Do note that aside from the trail, the park rules state no bikes, scooters, or other personal riding devices are allowed in the pavilion or common areas. There are shaded sections and sunny sections on the trail. In the summer, the area can get buggy because some of the boardwalk area is wetlands. Bugs love warm, wet areas, so maybe avoid during the warmest months or bring bug spray.
One of the picnic shelters is available for rent. It can accommodate up to 48 people with six picnic tables and two charcoal grills. There is electricity but no lights at the shelter. The restrooms are right at this area
Pharr Mill Park is certified by the National Wildlife Federation as a Wildlife Habitat. They are operated by the Town of Harrisburg in partnership with Cabarrus County.
