For family-friendly dining, it's impossible to beat this retro Sioux Falls staple.

If you enjoy old fashioned, 50's style diners, this is the place for you. Despite being exhausted from the day's drive, our kiddos were instantly energized upon stepping into this diner. Located in the heart of Sioux Falls, Phillips Avenue Diner is decked out in retro decor, and the staff was incredibly kind to our kids. It's always a bonus when staff is particularly kid-friendly, as it gives a tired mom and dad a sigh of relief.

The menu is pretty traditional diner fare, featuring all-day breakfast, delicious shakes, and even chicken and waffles. Poutine is one surprising menu item, and worth trying if you've never had the pleasure of experiencing it before. Our kids split a cheeseburger meal, and they were happy with the portions. Mom was happy with the reasonable prices.

Inside the front bakery windows, they had displayed the biggest cinnamon and caramel rolls I've seen in my life...nearly the size of a little one's head! We were instantly intrigued. We decided to have a "cinnamon bun-off" and bought one of each. We each tried a bit of both rolls, and voted for our family-favorite. Needles to say, the cinnamon bun took the top prize, at 3 votes to 1, but both were delicious.

Whether you grab take-out, or eat-in,once you're done, head across the street to grab a delicious, piping hot espresso from Coffea Roasterie and Espresso Bar. It'll give you just the jolt you're looking for!
