Have a full day of fun at the Phoenix Zoo.

Located in Papago Park, just east of downtown Phoenix, the Phoenix Zoo is a family favorite. This 125-acre zoological facility has many animal exhibits, tours, daily activities, programs, events, and more. They are one of the largest non-profit zoos in the U.S. There are over 3,000 animals with 400 species represented. There is so much to see and do here, you will want to come back time and time again.

The zoo is divided into several sections such as the Africa trail, Arizona trail, Tropics trail, and the Children's trail. You can download the map at home or find maps throughout the zoo. During the day you will find an animal presentation at 10:30 am at the Doornbos Discovery Amphitheater where you will learn about some of the amazing animals at the zoo. There are also paid activities such as the giraffe encounter, sting ray pet and feed, camel rides, carousel, Rydables, and Safari cruiser tours.

The children's area of the zoo is always a hit. There is the enchanted forest playground, Discovery Farm, Leapin' Lagoon, and the Yakulla caverns. During the summer the leapin' lagoon, which is meant for toddlers and preschoolers, is a great spot to cool off as well as the Yakulla caverns, which are geared toward the elementary age kids. Don't forget extra clothes and a towel for this area of the zoo. There is also a petting zoo with goats, horses, chickens, turkeys, and sheep, plus farm tractors and equipment to play and explore.

With many of the species of animals here being endangered or threatened, the zoo puts in many conservation efforts to preserve and conserve wherever possible.

There are several cafes and snack shacks to enjoy in the zoo or you are more than welcome to bring your own food. There are picnic tables near the cafes and plenty of places to eat.

Phoenix Zoo is a great fun-filled day for the whole family to enjoy. Check it out for your next family adventure. Be sure to follow them on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram @phoenixzoo for all the latest updates and happenings.
