An inclusive and newly renovated playground in Pickle Park is the place to be!

Just-renovated Harborfields Community Playground in Pickle Park (Greenlawn, NY) is suddenly the place to be with kids on Long Island’s north shore. The old structure was outdated and unsafe, and you hardly ever saw anyone playing there. Now, the opposite is true! That means that the only drawback to the fantastic new facility is that it can be a bit crowded, but never overly so, and for good reason.

Everything here was so thoughtfully designed and features inclusive elements like accessible swings and double-wide wheelchair ramps. There is only one structure, for all ages, but every kid will find something they love best. Interactive features like musical boards that play notes and sensory play features for all five senses dot the playground here and there.

The biggest hit is the rocking “boat.” Big kids love turning it into a wild ride, but we loved seeing the way they slowed down the rocking whenever the playground’s littlest explorers came on board.

A picnic table is built right in, a neat feature when your kids get tired or need a quick bite.

Note that there is not much shade or parental seating; we see lots of folks who bring a folding chair or picnic blanket, for precisely this reason, which works out just fine because the grassy expanse of Pickle Park is the perfect place to relax. There are no restrooms, but the town library is literally steps away if needed. We even like to plan a stop in at the library before or after time on the playground, which turns this into an outing that easily fills a morning or afternoon. Pickle Park is also only steps from downtown shops and restaurants.

In sum, this place is engaging for all the senses, and kids of every age love it!
