Home of the Atlanta Pride Festival, the Atlanta Jazz Festival, Atlanta’s Summer Screen on the Green Series, the Atlanta Dogwood Festival, and the South’s largest outdoor music fest, Music Midtown; Piedmont Park always has something amazing going on.  Known as the ‘Central Park of the South’, it is located about 1 mile northeast of Downtown (between the Midtown and Virginia Highland neighborhoods). Everything you could possibly look for in a major metropolitan park is here. There are several miles of paved pathways where walking, running, biking, scootering and inline skating are ever-present.  There is a huge off-leash dog park for your furry friends, a running track, two soccer fields, two softball fields, and two sand volleyball courts to keep bodies in motion! There’s also a large community garden present to teach children about the growth of various plants and vegetables.

Do not forget your bathing suits! There is a very large fountain splash pad that will keep children entertained for hours as they dodge the spray from over 70 jets.  Also, don’t miss the large aquatic center. With its designated lap lanes, zero entry, and over-the-top concession stand, everyone will be smiling.

Calling all anglers!  There are three fishing piers and a dock. Queue the fishing stories because this lake is continually stocked with Large Mouth Bass, Crappie, Bream, and Catfish.  A valid State of Georgia fishing license will be asked for in order to fish. The park also hosts all kinds of regular, special programs such as yoga classes, bird watching, gardening demonstrations, playdates, bocce tournaments, and workout boot camps, just to name a few!  There are two separate play areas for kids, one with boundless play equipment, the other a gorgeous playscape, with jaw-dropping color and textures. Picnic tables and grills surround these areas. Several family-friendly bathrooms abound. If you are not in the mood for a picnic, Park Tavern, an Atlanta institution, is onsite and highly recommended.
