Take a walk through thousands of trees on this beautiful trail, a hidden gem within the city.
The Pine Hollow Arboretum is a hidden gem in Albany. I have lived here for nearly twelve years and just discovered it. One man's love of trees and care has turned into 22 acres of learning and breathtaking scenery. The site has 30 different types of unique trees and there are two separate trails that are manicured for easy walking, learning, and discovering. Among the trees, you will find several ponds, benches for sitting, and easy to find trail markers which my 4-year-old enjoyed because it enabled him to be the "leader" by following the easy to see trail markers.
Things to Know:
If you are into learning more about the types of trees or for homeschooling purposes, they have a brochure and self-guided tour that you can download here or pick up a hard copy upon arrival.
When you first enter the arboretum, it will look like a private home. This is because it was the home of the founder John Abbuhl. They turned his home into a visitor center so don't fret! You are in the right place! Due to COVID restrictions, the residence might be closed so print the tour ahead of time if desired or call to check if they have opened back up.
If walking amongst the trees makes you hungry, there are a lot of great local spots to try. A great place just a few minutes driving is Bake For You Bakery. They have breakfast, lunch, and delicious desserts!
