Enjoy Nature's Peace on the Winding Trails and the ADA compliant Playground, Too!

Pole Green Park is an absolute treasure in Hanover, VA! Because there are so many options at this expansive park, a trip to PGP usually lasts about 3-4 hours for us!

There are lots of parking options, but we prefer to park directly in front of the playground, where we begin our adventure. This playground is designed to meet ADA standards and be inclusive, so ALL children can play and enjoy this space. The surface is a soft turf, making it accessible for wheelchairs or strollers. There are also ramps and adaptive, supportive swings. My children love the varied climbing walls, riding in the "bouncy car," and trying to balance on the swinging stepping stones. There is also a cute window designed to look like a stage that lends itself to imaginative play. My little actress loves this aspect of the playground! This playground is safe for children of all ages. Toddlers love the ramps, especially.

If your children need a snack break, there's a picnic table directly behind the playground. There are several adjacent fields, too, so pack a ball or frisbees to add to the fun! Bathrooms are in the small building beside the playground.

After finishing at the playground, we head to the trail for some hiking and nature play. While there is a paved trail around the park, we prefer to take the wooded trail down to the creek. To access this part of the park, you can actually park in front of the large picnic pavilion after the large red sign, or you could walk from the playground.

The trail is very peaceful and quiet. We usually only see 1-2 other people. It is a dog-friendly trail. There are several bridges to cross and one bench along the way to the creek. We like to set up a "base camp" in the beach area to the right of the bridge with rails. It is about half a mile from the picnic pavilion to the creek. Once here, my kiddos love to splash in the creek, build a dam, find sticks, rocks and predict float/sink. This is a beautiful and clean area to relax and enjoy nature. I recommend packing a change of clothes and water shoes for this part of the outing.

The park is also home to a dog park, skate park, horse stables, a volleyball court, and pickleball courts!
