Play pickleball, football, run around the field or play on the playground at Pouncey Tract Park.

Next to Short Pump Middle School, on Pouncey Tract Road, you’ll find a sliver of a county park with an impeccable ADA-compliant playground, picnic tables, shelters, and rustic path forming a small loop around the most professional pickleball courts I have ever seen!

Pickleball was a sport that I was positive my P.E. teacher in high school had made up, but it turns out that the sport has an intensely devoted following. Pouncey Tract Park is a beacon for pickle ballers to gather and play. The courts require a knowledge of the game, but there are enough folks around the courts on weekends for you to get a quick tutorial, but I do not recommend giggling about the name “pickleball.”

The recently upgraded, and very well-maintained playground has a rubber mat turf with a zero-entry path, which allows wheelchairs and strollers to be pushed easily right up to the awesome ADA swings and the coolest teeter-totter I have ever seen: a four-seat ADA-compliant structure that allows kids to interact with each other while bobbing up and down, unlike a swing - which is more of a solo fun experience.  The playground also has a more traditional play structure that includes a ladder-like climbing tower with a slide coming down, but the seamless design of all the playground components makes every kid smile and just want to play.

The park is also home to the better-known sport of football and the Tuckahoe youth league that keeps the stands filled on Saturdays each Fall, so check your timing if you’re hoping to park close to the playground! But, if you are there during game time, there’s a very good chance you could take advantage of the Tuckahoe concession stand for snacks, all the while knowing that your funds will be supporting the youth league. Next to the concession area are the restrooms, which do not offer a changing area and have push-button sinks and air hand dryers, so you may want to grab extra napkins to dry little hands afterward.
