An outdoor adventure with a variety of features that will keep the whole family active!

Powell Stackhouse Park is a 277-acre park and green space with 7 miles of hike and bike trails. The park also features several ball fields, picnic tables and fields. Hikers and bikers will find a variety of trail options- from the wide, flat Luzerne Path to the more traditional Elk Run Trail which winds along the stream in the park. Visitors can download a trail map from the Stackhouse Park Website to see all 14 trails that are available!

At the corner of the park, near the intersection of Edgehill Dr. and Greene St., you can find The Mound Playground. (If you’ve just exited the famous Johnstown Incline, you can find it on the hill that is directly behind the upper station. Just walk up the steps that lead to the huge American flag, look to your left and you can’t miss it.)

The playground is large and features a variety of equipment from swings, to an old-fashioned “merry-go-round”, and places to climb and slide. The mound is meant for all ages and does have large equipment for big kids and smaller equipment for little ones. There are plenty of benches and also a covered pavilion with picnic tables.

If you’re in need of a bathroom, a public restroom is available at the upper station of the incline. You can also purchase snacks and ice cream at the station if you’re in the mood! The main entrance to Stackhouse Park is un Luzerne Street, but the park is also accessible via several other city streets including Norton Road, Julia Drive, Drexel Street, Fayette Street, and Crystal Street.

Our work in Baltimore is truly a family affair. Husband and wife, Matt and Katie, work together to head up our ambassador team in Charm City. Katie is a Maryland native and has lived in the state her whole life. She moved to Baltimore in 2007 after graduating from the University of Maryland, College Park with a bachelor's degree in early childhood education. She has been working in the field of early childhood education as a teacher and family coach for the past 12 years. Katie also holds a Masters of Education in Literacy from Loyola University. She is passionate about giving kids and families the knowledge and tools that they need to thrive. Matt grew up in the Highlandtown neighborhood of Baltimore. As a city native, Matt is a great resource on all that the city has to offer. After months of helping Katie explore the city for her role at a Happy Active Family, he decided to put his love of writing to use and officially come on board as an ambassador. Matt and Katie have two girls, ages 5 and 7. They spend their weekends camping, hiking, or exploring other hidden gems in their area. Tap into their insider knowledge by downloading the app today!
