Primrose in Brookland, Northeast Washington DC

When I heard Primrose DC, a neighborhood French-American bistro was opening in the Brookland neighborhood (known as "Little Rome") by owners, Sebastian Zutant and Lauren Winter of The Red Hen, one of my favorite restaurants, I was thrilled.

My husband and I headed there for an anniversary dinner. Primrose emphasizes a focus on natural wines and food made with locally-sourced ingredients.

The food is wonderful, with a comfortable and beautifully-designed dining room - and the service is exceptional - but an even more pleasant surprise came when we noticed this lovely French bistro also turns out to also be a kid-friendly restaurant.

Seeing the number of couples enjoying their dinners with their toddlers and young children was a delight. Everyone on the staff was more than accommodating to the families, providing high chairs, great kids menu options, coloring pages, and changing tables available in the restroom.

The patio was a great place to let the toddlers run around while parents enjoyed a drink waiting for a table.

You'll find items you would expect like French onion soup, moules frites, whole roasted chicken, and Roseda Farm ‘steak frites’ for the grown-ups, as well as grilled cheese, chicken fingers, mac and cheese for the little ones.

A wonderful place to celebrate any occasion, or just Friday night out with the kids. Check out the Brunch and Dinner Menu for ideas ahead of your visit.

If you're looking for a beautiful stroll after your delicious meal, the Franciscan Monastery isn't too far away and their gardens are unbelievably gorgeous.
