A Fun, Scenic, and Easily Accessible Trail in Rosslyn.

Roosevelt Island is an oasis in the city and offers boardwalk-style walkways through the woods and over the swamplands. Get your active kids moving, hiking, walking, and biking. It's a great place to take a deep breath from the noise of the city and enjoy the sounds of nature and fresh air. You can spot lots of wildlife along the trail, including snakes, deer, ducks, and turtles. Dogs must be kept on a leash, so bring the pup along! There are beautiful trails that follow a river and trails are accessible year-round.

For a longer journey, the Mount Vernon Trail begins right near Roosevelt Island, so make it a turning point for your journey from further south in Virginia, bring a bike lock to park, and have a picnic on the island or start your Mount Vernon Trail journey here. If it's a beautiful day, the lot can fill up, so parking up the trail and riding, walking or running there is a great alternative.

If you're thinking ahead, you can download an activity book from their website, print it, and bring it to the park to complete. When you mail it in, you'll get a free Junior Ranger badge! Be aware that some paths may be narrow and muddy, so plan ahead to have an extra pair of shoes in the car if it has rained recently.

For lunch, Wiseguy Pizza and Sweetgreen in Rosslyn are just a five-minute drive, or head over the bridge to Georgetown and check out Farmers, Fishers and Bakers at the Georgetown waterfront is also a quick drive.
