A Montauk hike that delivers lasting memories!

Nestled in the woods where the Long Island Sound meets the historic Oyster Pond, you will find the Seal Haulout Trail.  As you and your family’s journey begins, the beauty around you becomes all-encompassing.  During winter and spring, seals can be seen lounging on rocks and playing in the surf. The trail is under two miles west of the lighthouse and just over a mile and a half out and back so either is doable for energetic family members, but this trail is more direct.

The moderately populated, scenic out and back trail is incredibly family-friendly and can be enjoyed by all ages.  Dogs are not allowed on the path out of consideration for the wildlife.

The trailhead is directly off Montauk Highway (north of the highway) and there is no parking lot.  Please, don’t let this deter you from checking out this hike!  Make a right onto Camp Hero Road off of Rt. 27 and park on the side of the street.  You will have to cross Rt. 27 and walk about 25 ft west to see the trailhead. The website has more specific directions.
