This huge nature area is big enough, and has enough fun in store to keep your family entertained all day long!

Silverwood Park is one of several gems in the Three Rivers Park District system. If you're not familiar with Three Rivers Parks, they're some of the biggest, and best nature areas in the Twin Cities, if not the very best, outside of state parks. Many of our favorite nature areas belong to the Three Rivers Park banner, and we've been to tons of parks in the Twin Cities.

This park has so much to offer, including a premium location, just north of Minneapolis. Its huge size, trail system, and of course, beautiful Silverwood Lake are all contributors to what makes it so special. It also houses a huge visitor center, complete with a small cafe, art gallery space, and more.

The nature trails of Silverwood Park feature a collection of sculptures created by local artists, many of which are interactive. These sculptures really are such a neat part of this park for families. The kids were absolutely delighted to find these surprises, seemingly around every corner, especially those that they could interact with. One of our favorite surprise interactive art installations here was out in the woods, along the trailside. It was fallen log, with all sorts of fun parts to it. It had a swing on one side, a slide coming off the log on the other side, spots for climbing it, as well as a steering wheel affixed to the side. It was a thrill for the kids to find such an awe-inspiring play area randomly set in the woods. Watching the delight on their faces was just simply wonderful.

Silverwood Park offers an array of nature-themed classes. Summertime brings canoe and kayak rental opportunities here, as well as opportunities for fishing on Silverwood Lake. There are also opportunities for renting spaces at the visitor center, as well as hosting birthday parties here.

We had a blast discovering all the different art installations along the trail, hiking in the woods together, following animal tracks, and just enjoying nature. I highly recommend this park for all nature-lovers visiting the Twin Cities. Be sure to pack plenty of snacks or a picnic lunch, as this park has acres and acres to explore.

After getting your dose of nature therapy here, head down to Taste of Scandinavia for some good eats!
