Hike, bike, or play with the family in this scenic Delaplane, Virginia State Park.

A nearly 2000-acre park that offers a variety of outdoor recreational activities for families. With miles of hiking, biking, and bridle trails (and a direct connection to the Appalachian trail) you can spend the day enjoying the vistas of the Virginia Piedmont.  There are 10.5 miles of bridle trails, 22 miles of hiking trails, and 9 miles of bike trails to choose from.

If you are a history buff or eager learner they offer historical and nature programs year-round at their history farmhouse. Reenactments of colonial times through modern life visitors can learn about life in the Crooked Run valley. These nature and history programs are offered year-round to anyone who visits.

They offer fishing at a number of ponds around the property and an opportunity to test your backpacking skills with a 1.5 mile hike into their primitive campground for the night. This could be a great option for kids backpacking for the first time.

This park is accessible and about two miles south of Paris, VA. From the DC area, Sky Meadows is a little over an hour drive, from Richmond it is two hours, and from Northern Virginia it is about 45 minutes to an hour drive.

You'll find things for all ages to do, including seasonal festivals and events (and if you're making a weekend of it in the fall you can check out the nearby pick your own apple orchards and a pumpkin patch - less that 5 miles away).
