outdoor-adventures, run

Enjoy serene views of the sparkling sunshine over the lagoon while under the trees.

This stroller running route starts off in Solana Beach but could be started from the Encinitas San Elijo Lagoon Nature Center as well. Park at Fletcher Cove Park where there is a parking lot along with street parking. It also allows you to finish at a playground and let your little one run around and play afterward!

Walk up to the Coastal Rail Trail on the 101, about one block east, and begin your run here where the sidewalk follows alongside the railroad tracks. You will be running on a concrete sidewalk for the first .5 mile and then it will turn into the hard-packed dirt trail called Harbaugh Seaside Trails. Stay to the right of these trails along the fence, they all connect so you should end up at the same place regardless. You will run on these seaside trails for another .5 mile until the trail starts to descend down toward a short tunnel under the railroad tracks. Once under the tunnel, turn left and run alongside the railroad until you come to a set of bridges that will carry you over the lagoon and towards the San Elijo Lagoon Nature Center.

Enjoy these serene views of the sparkling sunshine over the lagoon waters while running underneath a tree overhang, making you feel like you've completely stepped out of the city. Once over the second bridge, turn right and follow the Visitor Center loop until you see the first opportunity to turn left, to a beautiful footbridge surrounded by more trees. This bridge will take you to the Visitor Center which will loop back to the two bridges you originally crossed. Following this trail back the way you came and your run will end with about 3.5 miles gained.

A running stroller will be needed for this route, the majority of it will be on hard-packed dirt. There will be bathrooms and ample parking at Fletcher Cove Park along with beach and playground access for you and your kiddo to have fun with after! If you're looking for something to eat afterward you can walk across the street to Naked Cafe, walk up to the 101 for some famous Pizza Port, grab ice cream at 101 Yogurt, or grab a coffee and treats at locals' favorite Lofty's Coffee.
