walk, run

A great place to wander, take in the fresh air and enjoy nature.

South of Mueller Lake Park, there is a crushed gravel trail that weaves between roads, gardens, and a small waterfall feature. Start at the giant spider sculpture (23 ft tall!) designed by Dixie Friend Gay, titled “Arachnophillia” and walk right under its abdomen, which is filled with shiny metallic eggs. Along the path, look for informational signs about the area, like the one here about native spiders.

There are lots of benches along the path to stop and relax if needed. You’ll pass a small lake with a mini waterfall feature before arriving at the butterfly garden, filled with native plants in conjunction with the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. There, you’ll see two additional large sculptures by Austin artist, Chris Levack: Wigwam and Pollen Grain. It’s hard not to notice the butterflies here, and if you happen to be visiting in the Spring, the native wildflowers are spectacular!
