Head to Spreckels Lake if you're in the mood to bask in the sun, drive around your model yacht, or take a walk.

This is a great destination if you're riding bikes around or looking for a place to picnic.  Home to the San Fransisco Model Yacht Club, you can head over to the boathouse across the way to check out some model boats for yourself.  The kids will love watching the model enthusiasts trying out their newest yachts, and cheering on the boats going head to head in a race! There are benches around the lake to sit and enjoy the turtles relaxing in the sun, fish splashing, and to simply take in the beauty of nature. The path around the lake is paved and smooth, which lends itself well to running, biking, or roller skating. It’s about half a mile to circle the lake, so not too far at all. This peaceful and serene spot is a favorite place for those practicing Tai Chi, reading, and meditating. Bring a lunch and find a spot to spread out your blanket for a wonderful picnic.

Spreckels Lake is located on the northern side of the park near Lindley Meadow and the Polo Field, not far from the Bison Paddock. Golden Gate Park also has many other fun attractions which you can explore and enjoy. If you're looking for a playground nearby, consider exiting the park and heading to Cabrillo Playground or Fulton Playground, depending on which direction you want to head.

Emily Coleman
Emily Coleman is a Jersey girl born and raised who caught the outdoor bug upon moving to Vermont to pursue a degree in Adventure Education and Environmental Studies from Green Mountain College. She spent most of her years before college deeply entrenched in the world of competitive cheerleading before discovering a passion for outdoor sports including mountain biking, white water kayaking, bikepacking, backpacking, slacklining, rock climbing, and skiing. Having been surrounded by children her entire life in her mother's daycare, she always had a strong affinity for kids. She moved to the mountains of Jackson Hole after graduating to coach for the local Kayak Club during the summers and nanny in the winters. Becoming a part of the Happy Active Family team felt like the perfect collision of her passion for building strong community bonds and encouraging an outdoor lifestyle.
