This past weekend I went to a children's birthday party at the STREB Lab for Action Mechanics in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. When I walked into the warehouse space, the first thing I noticed were employees with incredible physiques and huge muscles. Then my eyes raced upwards to the trapeze equipment, huge trampolines, and so much more. It's difficult to explain what the STREB Lab is without using the organization's own words. As they say: "...classes help dancers acquire new skills by posing unique challenges: change your base of support in a rapid-fire way, physically designate specific locations in vertical and horizontal space, learn to pop the muscles to initiate action (rather than skeletally transferring weight), train for impact, learn to fly with low-to-the-ground maneuvers that increase spatial awareness, and incorporate a timing system that is not musical but physical (“felt timing”)." Wow!

While the majority of the activities here are either for adults or for children signed up for the classes that last a whole season, the employees did tell me that there are "drop-in classes" for adults in which children are also able to attend. I imagine this would best suit the 10+ age range since the activities are quite challenging.

They currently host an introductory class ($18) on Tuesdays from 6:30-8 pm and various other classes during the evening that incorporate trampolines, trapeze, and acrobatics, and bungees.
