A clean, colorful playground in Northeast, DC next to RFK Stadium.
We stumbled on this playground when making our way over to Kingman and Heritage Islands for a nature walk. Also conveniently located from Anacostia Park, Kenilworth Gardens as well as the National Arboretum, there is ample parking and a bike-share adjacent to the fields that separate the playground from the path to Kingman and Heritage Islands. A perfect area to wander and hike capped off with some great playground time, or bring sporting equipment and have some fun on the athletic spaces. The fields are pristine, as is the playground itself.
There are so many creative play areas at the playground, and convenient seating areas spread throughout to have a picnic lunch or work while the children play. The surfaces are soft and there is everything from a multiple child bucket swings to sports-inspired toddler toys. Baby swings, spinning toys, many areas to climb, and a tall play structure with a long, twisting, tunnel slide. Umbrella shade is scattered throughout. There is a large pavilion with vending machines for beverages.
The fields accommodate a variety of sports, including soccer, softball, baseball, lacrosse, and kickball, and there is additional open green space and lighting for night games. The picnic areas and restrooms are convenient, and there are walking and biking paths. The parking lot is a short walk from all the amenities and the restrooms are also well-located.
A Tropical Smoothie Cafe is closeby in the Gateway neighborhood at Dakota Crossing.
