Enjoy a favorite seasonal pastime in an entertaining area!

It's cold and blustery in seaside Portland, and there's snow on the ground for almost half of the year. What better thing to do with your kiddos in winter than head onto an icy rink along the water for some ice skating! All kidding aside, the Rink at Thompson's Point is an ideal outdoor winter activity for the whole family!

Thompson's Point, a point of land that served in the early 19th century as a hub of barge and boat traffic on the water but sat as an unused industrial site for the last several decades, has been repurposed in recent years as a mecca of activity, including breweries, a children's museum, an event space, and the winter ice skating rink.

Open from late November until late February, the rink attracts a wide crowd of people -- ranging from families to teens. For the $8 admission price, you can skate for as long as you like. Food trucks also provide hot chocolates and other winter-friendly treats, and even beer and cocktails for the adults. Take a break from skating and sit on one of the many picnic tables to enjoy views of both the Portland skyline and the bay.

Skate rentals are available for $3, and well-built plastic skate aids for $5. Season passes and family passes are also available for frequent visitors.

Due to COVID, all visitors are required to wear a mask.
